Overlamination
types and protection
A clear film laminated over the print adds water, oil, scuff, chemical, and UV protection plus look and feel. Gloss boosts color pop (consumer goods); matte diffuses light for an upscale, readable, low-glare look; soft-touch adds a velvety premium feel (beauty, spirits); thermal-transfer laminate can be over-printed with variable data. Material tiers run PET laminate (~2–5 yr outdoor) up through cast PVC (~7 yr) and fluoropolymer (top outdoor). Cold lamination bonds at room temperature; hot lamination (~90°C) bonds more firmly.
