Roll wind direction (1–8) and why it matters

Wind direction is how labels are oriented as the roll unwinds on an applicator — a critical spec, since the wrong wind makes automatic application fail. The standard runs 1–8: positions 1–4 wind out (print facing outward), 5–8 wind in. For example, position 1 is head-leading (top of the label off first), 2 tail-leading, 3 right-edge-leading, 4 left-edge-leading. Confirm the wind number against the applicator manual before ordering; customers who say "normal" or "reverse" wind should be translated to a specific number.
