Embossing and debossing

tactile relief

§ 01 · The short version

Embossing presses the facestock between matched male/female dies to raise artwork (relief); debossing recesses it. Both add a tactile dimension that signals premium and invites touch. Flexible paper stocks (coated, kraft) take the relief well; rigid films like PET show little effect and can crack, so they are not recommended. Foil-plus-emboss is a common pairing. Relief depth is limited by stock thickness and die precision — too deep cracks the face or splits the adhesive; thicker paper (over ~100 gsm) outperforms thin.
