Adhesive service temperature ranges

Standard acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive tops out around 120–150 °C. For more heat: high-temperature acrylics reach 180–200 °C and silicone PSAs reach 260 °C continuous (~300 °C peaks). For cold, freezer-grade adhesives stay flexible below −40 °C. Match the adhesive to the temperature the label actually sees.

Freezer-grade

Service temperature
Down to −40 °C (and below)
Typical use
Cold chain, frozen food

Standard acrylic PSA

Service temperature
Up to ~120–150 °C
Typical use
General product & shipping labels

High-temperature acrylic

Service temperature
Up to ~180–200 °C
Typical use
Paint ovens, engine bays

Silicone PSA

Service temperature
Up to ~260 °C continuous (~300 °C peak)
Typical use
Autoclave (121–135 °C), aerospace electronics

Typical ranges by adhesive chemistry. Exact limits vary by specific formulation and dwell time — confirm the rated range for your grade.

How to read it

  • Silicone PSAs have low tack and need longer dwell or a primer, and cost more — use them only where standard adhesives fail.
  • Watch the distinction between minimum application temperature and service temperature: some freezer adhesives must be applied warm (above ~+10 °C) but then hold down to −50 °C.
  • Rubber adhesive has high tack on low-surface-energy plastics but ages poorly under heat and UV (typically under 1–2 years). Acrylic resists heat, chemicals and UV far better.

Common questions

What adhesive survives high heat or an autoclave?

High-temperature acrylics reach 180–200 °C; silicone PSAs reach 260 °C continuous and are the choice for autoclave (121–135 °C) and steam. Standard acrylic tops out around 120–150 °C.

What adhesive works in a freezer?

A freezer-grade adhesive with a glass-transition temperature below about −40 °C stays flexible where standard adhesives stiffen and lift. Mind the application-vs-service temperature split.
